Key Responsibilities
- Prepare restaurant tables with special attention to sanitation and order before each shift and between seatings.
- Attend to customers upon entrance, greeting them warmly and escorting them to their assigned tables.
- Present restaurant menus and help customers select food and beverages based on their preferences and dietary needs.
- Take accurate orders and serve food and drinks promptly, ensuring proper presentation and temperature.
- Answer questions or make recommendations for complementary products such as appetizers, wine pairings, or desserts.
- Collaborate with other restaurant servers and kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods.
- Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude and issue bills and accept payment accurately.
What You Need to Qualify
Proven restaurant serving or waitering experience is required, typically at least one year in a full service establishment. Hands on experience in cashier duties including processing payments and making change is essential. You must have strong attention to cleanliness and safety, following all sanitation guidelines. Patience and a customer oriented approach are critical because you will handle busy shifts and occasional difficult guests. Excellent people skills with a friendly attitude will help you build rapport with visitors from around the world. You must be responsible and trustworthy as you will handle cash and alcohol service. A high school diploma is a plus but not required. You must be at least 18 years old to serve alcohol in Florida.
Pay Rate and Benefits
The base hourly rate for servers in the Florida Keys ranges from 8 to 10 US dollars per hour plus tips. With tips, most servers earn between 20 and 35 dollars per hour depending on season and guest volume. This aligns with current market rates for luxury resort dining.
