This Class 4 Driver job at Higgins is a permanent full-time role on the brand-new Wellington City Council Road Maintenance Contract – one of the biggest in the capital. You’ll drive tippers, water carts, and asphalt trucks, haul chip/seal and hotmix, load/unload rollers & pavers, and keep the city’s roads patched and sealed year-round. Guaranteed minimum 40 hrs/week (often 50–60 in summer), on-call roster, night works, and storm response. Pay is NZ$32–$37/hr (NZ$70K–$85K/year) + overtime at T1.5, full medical insurance, Z fuel discounts, kids’s education fund for your kids, and Fletcher Building shares scheme. You need full clean Class 4 (Class 5 or WTR = big bonus) and civil/roading experience. Class 4 Driver – Road Maintenance
Responsibilities
- Drive Class 4 tippers & asphalt trucks daily.
- Haul seal aggregate & hotmix around Wellington.
- Minimum 40 hrs/week + regular OT & nightshift.
- Load/unload rollers, pavers, chip spreaders.
- On-call for storm response & emergencies.
- Complete pre-starts & daily logs.
- Keep truck clean and report faults.
- Work rain or shine, day or night.
- Help crew on the ground when needed.
- Zero harm safety mindset.
Requirements
Education
None required.
Experience
Civil construction or roading driving.
Qualifications
- Full clean NZ Class 4 licence (Class 5 bonus).
- WTR (Wheels, Tracks, Rollers) huge advantage.
- Legal to work full-time in NZ.
Skills
- Drive heavy trucks in city traffic & tight sites.
