Responsibilities

• Plant flowers, shrubs, and trees to keep gardens vibrant.
• Weed and prune to maintain tidy beds and borders.
• Care for rose gardens and shrubbery with precision.
• Use vegetation control methods like spraying safely.
• Follow schedules to meet council and client standards.
• Ensure safety for the team, clients, and the public, no shortcuts.
• Keep tools and gear clean and ready for action.
• Report issues like pests or damaged plants quickly.
• Engage with the public courteously when needed, lah.
• Work with the team to hit maintenance targets.
• Use manual vehicles for site-to-site travel.
• Pitch in with bedding displays or special projects.
• Stick to health and safety practices at all times.
• Join training for new techniques or certifications.
• Support Green by Nature’s green, sustainable vision.

Requirements

Education

Level 3 or 4 National Certificate in Horticulture preferred; not required.

Experience

• No experience required; training provided (1–2 years a plus).

Skills

• Solid work ethic, ready to roll up sleeves.
• Team player, syncing with the gardening crew smoothly.
• Strong communicator, chatting with the team or the public.
• Reliable, showing up for every shift on time.
• Physically fit for outdoor tasks like digging.
• Detail-focused, keeping gardens neat and tidy.

Knowledge

• Basic gardening know-how or eager to learn, lah.
• Familiar with the safe use of tools and sprays.
• Understands health and safety in outdoor work.
• Gets Christchurch’s greenspace maintenance vibe.
• Knows vegetation control basics or learns fast.
• Can follow schedules and supervisor instructions.

Applicant Location

This job is on-site in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, working across various green spaces. Candidates must have legal work rights in New Zealand (no sponsorship) and a full, current driver’s licence with the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
